Overview
The School of Culture, Community, and Human Development houses programs that anchor PVAMU’s mission in cultural awareness, social equity, and human wellbeing. Faculty in the School work at the crossroads of behavioral science, community organizing, and public history - producing scholarship and curricula that explore the lived experiences of marginalized communities and inform social policy. Students will be trained to become leaders in education, mental health, nonprofit management, and social entrepreneurship.

Requirements for a Minor in African-American Studies (18 SCH)
The African-American Studies minor is an interdisciplinary course of study that provides students the opportunity to gain knowledge and understanding of the African-American influence on the social, political, cultural, and intellectual development of this country. Courses may not be used to satisfy multiple academic requirements such as core curriculum requirements, or other major and minor requirements. Students should consult the African-American Studies Program Coordinator in selecting appropriate elective courses.

A core course cannot be used to satisfy both the core requirement and the requirement of the minor.

Students must first be enrolled in a summer internship approved by the Gulf Scholars Program Director before signing up for the Capstone project.

Phi Alpha Theta International Honor Society
Membership in Phi Alpha Theta International Honor Society is open to undergraduate students who have completed 12 semester hours of history with a grade point average of 3.10 or above in history courses and 3.00 in two-thirds of the remainder of the coursework, excluding history.
